General Announcement

The classroom placement process is complex, and many factors impact the decision-making process. Each spring we complete a thorough and thoughtful process to place students in classes for the following year. As part of this process, we provide an opportunity for parents to share additional insight that may prove helpful in the placement process

Message From the Principal

Did you know that April is Celebrate Diversity Month? This is an important opportunity for each one of us in the Newcastle community to pause and consider all of the diversity that surrounds us in our lives together. Did you know that we have at least 25 different ethnicities represented in our community? What a great privilege to have so many cultures, experiences, and perspectives altogether in one location! During Spring Break, our district received significant media attention regarding a student’s request to form an interfaith prayer club at Creekside Elementary School. Please know that we take our commitment to uphold student rights seriously; this includes those rights associated with religious exercise and liberty. Details about the approvial timeline for clubs at Creekside are enclosed.

In an April 2 meeting, members of the Bond Advisory Committee identified the priorities they think are important to the students, families, staff and community members they represent. Then, they began to discuss in small groups which projects might align with or support the priorities they would like to see addressed. This was the committee’s sixth meeting out of eight.

Safety Emergency Preparedness

The King County Office of Emergency Management recently gifted 20 Bleed Control Kits to the district for use in our schools in the event of an emergency. Each Bleed Control Kit comes with eight individual bleeding control packs. This grant is worth approximately $17,000.
